Children, Pregnant Mother among Nine Christians Killed in Fresh Herdsmen Attack

Children, Pregnant Mother among Nine Christians Killed in Fresh Herdsmen Attack

Follow us below:

Several Christians have been killed this month by armed Fulani radicals who carried out attacks in the Plateau and Benue states of Nigeria as thousands have died in the escalating violence in the West African country’s Middle Belt in recent years.

Six children and a pregnant woman were among nine people that Muslim Fulani herdsmen killed in north-central Nigeria Tuesday night (April 14), Morning Star News reports.

About a dozen herdsmen armed with rifles and machetes raided Hura-Maiyanga village, in the Miango area of Kwall District in Plateau state’s Bassa County, shouting the jihadist slogan “Allahu Akbar [God is greater],” sources said.

“They were armed with machetes and AK-47 rifles as they attacked us,” Hanatu John, a woman who survived the attack, told Morning Star News. “They attacked our village at about 8 p.m., and they were shouting, ‘Allahu Akbar!’ as they shot into our houses.”

The assailants were speaking Fulfulde, the Fulani language, as they shot into homes, she said.

“Most families had already retired into houses to sleep when these Fulani gunmen came into the village and were shooting into houses,” John told Morning Star News in Miango town, where she took refuge. “As the herdsmen shot at us, we all ran out from our houses into the surrounding bushes. Some of the herdsmen chased after us and shot at us, while others were burning down our houses.”

Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, director of the Emancipation Centre for Crisis Victims in Nigeria (ECCVN), confirmed the attack.

“Hura hamlet of Maiyanga village in Kwall District, Miango Chiefdom in Bassa Local Government Area, Plateau state was invaded last night on April 14th by suspected armed Fulani herdsmen, who surrounded the entire area and unleashed mayhem on the unsuspecting natives,” Mwantiri told Morning Star News by text message. “As a result, nine persons were gruesomely killed and two injured while 33 houses were completely torched by fire. Most of the persons killed were children.”

He identified those killed as Angela Daniel, 3; David Yakubu, 15; Luka Magwa, 5; Ishaya Yakubu, 7; Aba Ibrahim, 6; Stephen Ngwe, 7; the pregnant Talatu Daniel, 32, and her unborn child; Sunday Biri, 45; and Izhe Nkama, 43.

Those killed were buried in two separate mass graves, he said. Mwantiri identified the two people wounded as Esther James, 55, and 51-year-old Lami Ibrahim.

“Additionally, over 250 persons, mostly women and children, have been displaced with no means of livelihood,” Mwantiri said.

Miango resident Grace Gye sent a message to the Plateau state government on Wednesday (April 15) decrying the Fulani terrorist onslaught on area Christians and calling on state and federal governments “to protect the people and their property.” She questioned why Fulani herdsmen were moving about freely in spite of a lockdown in the face of the novel coronavirus.

The Rev. Ronku Aka, a former Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) pastor and now community leader of the Irigwe ethnic group, lamented incessant attacks on predominantly Christian communities.

“So many of my people have been killed over the years, including the attack of last night,” he told Morning Star News on Wednesday (April 15). “In spite of promises from the government to my people, the herdsmen have continuously been attacking our communities.”

Human rights organisations monitoring the ongoing violence taking place against Christians in Nigeria are now raising concerns of an imminent genocide.

More than 50 believers have been killed in the month of March and over a dozen more during the first week of April. Since the beginning of 2020, at least 410 Christians have been murdered. Most of the violence was perpetrated by jihadist Fulani militants.

Nigeria is ranked as the 12th worst country in the world when it comes to Christian persecution on Open Doors USA’s 2020 World Watch List.

Late Abba Kyari,

spokesmen Femi Adesina said on Saturday morning.

“Funeral arrangements to be announced soon,” Adesina said.

Garba Shehu, the special assistant on media and publicity to President Muhammadu Buhari, said Kyari died on Friday.

Kyari was suspected to have contracted the novel coronavirus when he visited Germany in early March multiple sources said. The presidency did not deny or confirm the rumours at the time.

It was only after his death that Shehu confirmed that Kyari had died of coronavirus.

“The deceased had tested positive to the ravaging COVID-19, and had been receiving treatment,” Shehu said.

He was Buhari’s closest person in the cabinet. In fact, Buhari, while inaugurating his ministers in August, ordered them to make requests for meetings with him through his now-late chief of staff.

Multiple media reports said the president was also tested for the virus but his test came out negative. A number of top Nigerian politicians, some of whom met Kyari after his return from Germany, also took the test.

Coronavirus: Paul’s Secret Spiritual Warfare Weapon(how to win any pandemic)

Paul’s Secret Spiritual Warfare Weapon

Spiritual warfare is a way of life for me. I am careful to put my armor on, stay alert to the spirit realm, and walk as close to the Holy Spirit as I possibly can. Still, there are seasons where the battle rages and I grow weary. There are times when I need reinforcements in the face of surging enemies that are intent on killing me, stealing what is rightfully mine and destroying my family and ministry.

Although I’ve long understood the need for intercessors, an email from a general in the faith this week—and an expert in spiritual warfare—reminded me of just how important prayer partners are. After asking about the warfare against me after my book, Jezebel’s Puppets

The email read:
“With the undoing of moral restraint in our nation and the intimidating nature of Jezebel against those who speak against it, I was wondering how you were doing. … I know a few folks who have taken a strong public stand against this spirit who subsequently experienced some added battle. I just wanted to make sure you have folks praying for you. … The biggest factor is to have intercessors who can pray for you regularly and also spontaneously. Part of the Ephesians 6 dress code is where Paul adds, ‘And pray for me.’ He knew all the mechanics of warfare, but he also knew he personally needed prayer.”

A Revelation of Reinforcements
Let’s look at these Scriptures first hand. Paul exhorted the church at Ephesus—and really all believers—to be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.

“Put on the whole armor of God that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For our fight is not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, and against spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.” (Eph. 6:11)

That’s where many spiritual warriors stop. But it’s not where Paul the apostle stopped. He had another weapon against the wiles of the wicked one. And he had reinforcements that were making intercession for him from Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria and to the end of the Earth. He didn’t just hope they might pray when the Holy Spirit brought him to mind—he petitioned for their prayers.

Prayer Against Spiritual Warfare
Once we get past the whole armor of God and personal prayer challenge, we see Paul the apostle reaching out for spiritual warriors to join his intercessory prayer team: “Pray for me, that the power to speak may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains, that I may speak boldly as I ought to speak.” (Eph. 6:19)

Paul asked for prayer for God to provide an opportunity to speak, be heard and spread the gospel message clearly (Col. 4:3-4); that people would accept his message and believers would accept his God-given wisdom (2 Thess. 3:1-2); for deliverance from the Jews (Rom. 15:30); for deliverance from challenging circumstances and prison (2 Cor. 1:11; Phil. 1:19, Philemon 1:22); that he could see in person those to whom he was writing (Rom. 1:8; 1 Thess. 3:10).

Final Words: Spiritual Warfare
Of course, we know that Paul returned the favor and prayed for his spiritual sons, co-laborers, churches and even his enemies. Prayer is a partnership. You need prayer, your family needs prayer—and the leaders in the body who are out there fighting devils, equipping the saints for the work of the ministry, and preaching the gospel need your prayers. I need your prayers. So I ask, as Paul did, pray for me.

Coronavirus: ‘We Do Not Grieve Like Those Who Have No Hope,’ Mike Pence Says

Vice President Mike Pence on Wednesday said the faith of millions of Americans during the Easter season is a source of hope amidst an uptick in the number of COVID-19 cases and deaths.

Pence made the remarks during the daily briefing from President Trump and the Coronavirus Task Force.

Faith Is More Powerful Than Government And Nothing Is More Powerful Than God – Trump

“In the wake of more than 1.9 million tests, we see more than 400,000 Americans have tested positive for the coronavirus, and sadly, we’ve lost more than 14,000,” Pence said. “We grieve. But as the Good Book says, we do not grieve like those who have no hope. In this very special week, I know that the faith of millions of Americans is a comfort to them.”

Trump, too, referenced the Easter holiday.

“This is a holy week, when religious believers across the nation will observe Passover, Good Friday and Easter,” Trump said. “Millions of Jewish families begin Passover at sundown tonight, a sacred, unbroken tradition that traces back to the ancient land of Egypt. And on Sunday, we celebrate our beautiful, wonderful Easter, which we all look forward to. And we’re going to have many Easters together in churches in the future.”

America, he said, is “getting much closer” to defeating the virus and “getting our country back to the way it was.”

Trump and Pence spoke to about 10,000 religious leaders Wednesday in an off-the-record conference call “to thank them for raising the spirits of our people during these very difficult days,” Trump said.

“While we may be physically apart, we can use this time to pray, to reflect, and to focus on our personal relationship with God,” Trump said.

Although a transcript of the conference call was not released, NBC News reported that Trump told the religious leaders, “We’re going to beat this plague.”

“We’re going to beat this virus and we’re going to beat it soon,” Trump said. “We’re going to get our country back.”

Focus On Prayer, Grow In Personal Relationship With God: Trump Urges Americans Amid COVID-19 Pandemic

undefined

United States President Donald J. Trump with Vice President Mike Pence

“On this Good Friday, Christians from all around the world remember the suffering and death upon the cross of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ,” Trump said at the briefing at the White House. “At Easter Sunday, we will celebrate His glorious resurrection.”
Trump said as people won’t be able to “gather together with one another as we normally would on Easter,” they can “use this sacred time to focus on prayer, reflection, and growing in our personal relationship with God. So important.”

He continued, “I ask all Americans to pray that God will heal our nation; to bring comfort to those who are grieving; to give strength to the doctors, nurses, and healthcare workers; to restore health to the sick; and to renew the hope in every person who is suffering. Our nation will come through like never before.”

Trump assured that the U.S. death toll from the new coronavirus pandemic will be “substantially less” than the last week’s projection of 100,000.

The president acknowledged that “many families” have prayed “for me and for my family.” He said, “your prayers are felt, and I am forever grateful.”

Trump thanked “our great Vice President (Mike Pence) and his wonderful wife, who we all know very well, Karen, for the incredible job they do and for their service not only to the country but for their service to God.”

Trump quoted Prophet Isaiah, “Darkness covers the Earth…but the Lord rises upon you, and His glory appears over you…For the Lord will be your everlasting light.”

As America “battles the invisible enemy,” he continued, “we reaffirm that Americans believe in the power of prayer. We give thanks for the majesty of creation and for the gift of eternal life. And we place our trust in the hands of Almighty God.”

Father Pierluigi Maccalli (L) and Italian tourist Nicola Ciacco (R) are seen in a 23-second video released by their captors in April 2020.
A Catholic missionary priest who was abducted 2018 in Niger is still alive, according to a proof-of-life video released last week that was purportedly filmed in late March.

The Catholic charity Aid to the Church in Need reports that Father Pierluigi Maccalli was seen in a 24-second video that also featured Italian tourist Nicola Ciacco.

The 59-year-old Maccalli is a missionary serving with the Society of African Missions.

Muslim Scholar Converts to Christianity, Says Bible Has Authority Over Qur’an

Maccalli’s brother, Father Walter Maccalli, who is serving in Liberia, said he was joyful to see that his brother is still alive, according to Aid to the Church in Need.

“It’s great news, and we are delighted and hopeful that everything may turn out well,” Maccalli was quoted as saying, adding that he was a bit surprised by the video.

“I never expected to get news of this kind about my brother … [as] a great deal of time has passed without knowing anything.”

According to the charity, the new video is the first time there has been an update about Maccalli since he was kidnapped in September 2018 from the Bomoanga parish, near Niger’s border with Burkina Faso.

Muslim Woman Comes Back To Life After 2 Days In Mortuary, Says Jesus Brought Her Back

The video was first sent to the editor of Niger’s Aïr Info newspaper.

Over the last few years, the rise of Islamic radical extremist groups in the Sahel region of West Africa has led to a sharp increase in violent attacks and abductions in Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso.

Great Revival Sweeping Through Iran As Hundreds Of Thousands Come To Jesus Christ

Aïr Info reports that Ciacco and Maccalli are believed to be held by Jama’a Nusrat ul-Islam wa al-Muslimin, a Salafist extremist group founded in Mali in 2017.

The same organization is believed to have also abducted Canadian national Edith Blias and her Italian boyfriend Luca Tacchetto. Both were abducted in December 2018 and released in March according to Christian Post.

SMA Italian Provincial Superior Father Ceferino Cainelli told Aid to the Church in Need that there has been a prayer gathering every month in Maccalli’s home diocese of Crema to call on God for the priest’s release.

“The pain caused by the absence of Father Pierluigi, after a year and five months of his kidnapping, is very much felt,” Cainelli said.

All Muslim Family Members Accepted Jesus As Saviour As Jesus Healed Their Mother Of Cancer

According to International Christian Concern, a U.S.-based persecution watchdog organization, Maccalli served in Niger for 11 years before he was taken captive from his home by armed gunmen.

“This means that the gunmen were specifically targeting Father Maccalli for this kidnapping,” ICC reports. “So far it is unclear as to why they abducted him. There have been no ransom demands that have been released, and they have not killed him as a public statement.”

ICC called the new video a “good sign.” But it is still unclear in which country Maccali is being held.

Niger, a predominantly Muslim country, ranks as the 50th worst country in the world when it comes to Christian persecution, according to Open Doors USA’s 2020 World Watch List.

Hundreds Circle Round Georgia Hospital To Pray Against Coronavirus

undefined

“We’re called to be the hands and feet of Christ – and that’s exactly what we did today. We bombarded heaven with our prayers.”

People of faith throughout Georgia are finding unique ways to gather and pray for hospital workers battling the COVID-19 pandemic – and they’re following social distancing guidelines while doing it.

In Cartersville, Ga., hundreds gathered in their cars around the Cartersville Medical Center last Thursday to pray for the nurses and doctors. They tuned their radios to 91.7 FM, a local Christian station that plays worship songs.

Georgia is one of the epicenters of the coronavirus outbreak.

“I know people personally here that have been tested with the coronavirus. And one of our church members passed due to the coronavirus,” participant Jennifer Hyde told Atlanta’s Fox 5.

God you’re still working in the midst of all of this!

“We’re called to be the hands and feet of Christ – and that’s exactly what we did today. We bombarded heaven with our prayers,” he told Atlanta’s 11 Alive. “… It’s just been a blessing.”

Hospital workers appreciated the prayers. Several workers stood on top of the hospital building, arms outstretched in worship, as popular Christian song ‘Way Maker’ played on the radio. Other workers stood on the lawn.

Cartersville Medical Center in Bartow County wrote in a Facebook post that hundreds of people joined the prayer circle to raise the spirits of hospital staff and patients who are battling COVID-19.

“They are putting their lives at risk,” participant Lisa Shryock said, holding a sign reading, “Thank you. Praying for you.”

Michelle Anderson, who has worked at the hospital for 26 years, told Fox 5 she has “never been more proud to work here.”

“The community outpouring today is unbelievable,” she said.

As cars filled the hospital parking lot, people sat inside their vehicles and tuned their radios to hear prayer and music.

Camden McGill, who helped organize the event, said she is ready for the pandemic to end.

“It’s hit close to home, a lot of people have been affected by this, we’re just ready to see it go,” she said.

Staff members waved to everyone from the hospital’s rooftop, then sang the popular Christian song “Way Maker.”

Cartersville isn’t the only Georgia community to form an automobile prayer circle.

Coronavirus: Christian woman released from prison during Covid-19 outbreak is free for good.

undefined

A Christian woman temporarily released from prison in Iran because of the coronavirus pandemic has been told she does not need to return to jail.

Fatemeh Bakhteri was one of thousands of prisoners released on a temporary basis in Iran as part of the country’s efforts to stem the spread of Covid-19.

The 35-year-old was initially granted temporary release from Evin prison but has now been told by officials that she does not have to return because she was pardoned for the Persian New Year, celebrated last month, Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW) reports.

Ms Bakhteri, from Rasht, is a convert from Islam and a member of the Church of Iran. She was sentenced to a year in prison in September 2018 for “spreading propaganda against the regime”.

CSW reports that during the trial, the judge offered Ms Bakhteri her freedom if she returned to Islam. She was handed a prison sentence after refusing to renounce her Christian faith.

CSW’s Chief Executive Mervyn Thomas welcomed her release but criticised her treatment at the hands of the regime.

He called the charges against her “unfounded” and said they “amount to criminalising Christian activities”.

“Ms Bakhteri has spent a year away from her loved ones for discussing Christian doctrine with fellow Christians, which is not illegal,” he said.

“She is amongst many Iranians who are being penalised for adopting a religion of their choice, an action which is protected under Article 18 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, to which Iran is party.

“Given the reported spread of COVID-19 in the country’s prison system, CSW urges the international community to press the Iranian authorities to ensure the immediate and unconditional release of all prisoners of conscience, and to end the harassment of religious communities.”

5 Hope-Filled Prayers for Christian Marriages

undefined

In the midst of a marriage crisis, there is a very real temptation to focus on what is wrong, why it is wrong, and whose fault it is. This earthly focus can result in a hopeless state of mind. This hopelessness and discouragement makes us vulnerable to the enemy’s schemes to divide us.

Throughout the Bible, God offers us hope. He shows us over and over again that nothing is impossible when He is involved. He promises that we will experience peace when we keep our eyes on Him (Isaiah 26:3). Jesus literally spoke the words “Peace! Be still!” to a storm, saving the disciples’ lives while perfecting their faith in Him (Mark 4:39).

Our task is to believe, to ask, and to resist doubting (Mark 11:23).

These five Bible passages and prayers will help you to refocus on God who is able to do infinitely more to heal sacred marriage than you can imagine.

  1. Remember Me
But God remembered Noah and all the wild animals and the livestock that were with him in the ark, and he sent a wind over the earth, and the waters receded. Genesis 8:1

God, I trust that You see me and know what I am going through. You saved Noah, his family, and the animals from the flood. You sent a wind over the earth and caused the waters to recede. I am waiting on Your winds of change, Lord.

Change me, Lord. Here is my heart. Cleanse me of impure motives. Reduce me to love. Let Your pure love be the driving force behind my words, my touch, and my tone of voice.

Change my perception. Help me to see myself and my spouse through Your eyes.

Reveal to us where we are making the situation worse by resisting Your leadership and disobeying Your commands.

Help me to wait prayerfully and expectantly for You to move in us and our circumstances.

  1. Encourage Me
Many are saying of me, “God will not deliver him.” “Selah” But you are a shield around me, O LORD; you bestow glory on me and lift up my head. To the LORD I cry aloud, and he answers me from his holy hill. “Selah” I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the LORD sustains me. I will not fear the tens of thousands drawn up against me on every side. Psalm 3:2–6

Forgive me Lord for being discouraged by those who do not believe in Your power. The temptations to give up outnumber the billboards in the city.

But You, O Lord, are my encourager. Shield my heart and mind from discouragement.

Remind me of Your great acts of love for Your people.

You fed five thousand with one boy’s lunch. You transformed Saul from a Christian killer into Paul, a Kingdom builder. You are able to do so much more for our marriage than I have asked of You.

I rest my hopes on Your faithfulness. I will not fear based on what I can see with my eyes. I will trust in You, the unseen God, to shield me and my husband from reacting to the enemy’s schemes to divide us.

  1. Reward My Faith
Again he said, “What shall we say the kingdom of God is like, or what parable shall we use to describe it? It is like a mustard seed, which is the smallest seed you plant in the ground. Yet when planted, it grows and becomes the largest of all garden plants, with such big branches the birds of the air can perch in its shade.” Mark 4:30–32
    undefined

God, You have promised that if I offer You a miniscule amount of faith, You will create something so much bigger out of it.

Today, I offer You my faith in Your ability to bring Jesus into this world from a virgin girl. I believe that You breathed life into Adam and made Eve from his rib. You transformed Zacchaeus from a crook into someone who wanted to give back four times what he had stolen.

I believe that You, O Lord, can turn our bitterness into kindness. You can transform our self-focused stubbornness into a “your needs come first” mindset.

You are able to restore us completely and allow our marriage to point others to Your perfect love for imperfect people.

Let my faith become sight, Lord.

  1. Heal Our Marriage
As Jesus approached Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging. When he heard the crowd going by, he asked what was happening. They told him, “Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.” He called out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” Those who led the way rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” Jesus stopped and ordered the man to be brought to him. When he came near, Jesus asked him, “What do you want me to do for you?” “Lord, I want to see,” he replied. Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight; your faith has healed you.” Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus, praising God. When all the people saw it, they also praised God. Luke 18:35–43

Lord, I want our marriage to be healed.

Let the healing begin with me. Have mercy on me, Lord, a spouse who has failed so often to demonstrate Your love.

I want to love my spouse the way You love me. Help me.

I want to be a vessel of Your love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control in _’s life. Use me.

I want to love in such a way that __ is inspired to praise You. Glorify Yourself in me, Lord.

  1. Make Me Brave
Joshua said to them, “Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Be strong and courageous. This is what the LORD will do to all the enemies you are going to fight.” Joshua 10:25

Lord, I want to be filled with Your courage and strength. I want to live by every word that comes from Your mouth and speak boldly about what You can and will do.

The threats against my marriage are wimpy compared to Your great power.

Joshua put his godless enemies to death. He listened to Your voice and obeyed You.

You gave him authority to accomplish Your will. He commanded the sun to stand still, and You made it happen for the glory of Your name and the protection of Your people.

Teach me, Lord, to exercise the authority You have given me. Train me to hear Your voice and respond without hesitation.

Make me brave. Use me to war against the enemies of our marriage in prayer using the Sword of Your Spirit.

I believe You are able, Lord. Please help my unbelief.

With faith in Jesus’ blood and righteousness, I pray.

Amen

Christianity Is Spreading In My Country: Iran’s Intelligence Minister Laments

“It is not the job of the intelligence community to find the roots of these conversions from Islam. But it’s happening right before our eyes”undefined
Iran’s Intelligence Minister – Mahmoud Alavi
Iran’s intelligence minister has admitted publicly for the first time that Christianity is spreading throughout Iran.

Iranwire.com reports Mahmoud Alavi, the Islamic Republic’s intelligence minister, was giving a speech in front of several Shia Muslim clerics when he announced “Christianity is spreading in “parts” of Iran.”

Great Revival Sweeping Through Iran As Hundreds Of Thousands Come To Jesus Christ

In an apparent attempt to make light of the people are converting, Alavi said: “These converts are ordinary people whose jobs are selling sandwiches or similar things.”

The intelligence minister also told the clerics to quit bickering among themselves.

“We had no choice but to summon them to ask them why they were converting,” Alavi told the assembled group. “Some of them said they were looking for a religion that gives them peace. We told them that Islam is the religion of brotherhood and peace. They responded by saying that: ‘All the time we see Muslim clerics and those who preach from the pulpit talk against each other. If Islam is the religion of cordiality, then before anything else, there must be cordiality and peace among the clerics themselves.”undefined
